Manchester United attacker Anthony Martial could be on the move this summer after a revelation from his agent – and Liverpool fans on Twitter have urged the club to swoop in for his signature.
Agent Philippe Lamboley has revealed that the 22-year-old believes it’s time to depart Old Trafford, as they are yet to extend his contract that expires in 2019.
“After thinking about all the factors and possibilities, Anthony wants to leave Manchester United,” Lamboley told French news outlet RMC Sport. “There are lots of factors, and right now it’s too early to talk about them.
“I think that when United, the most powerful club in the world, do not find an agreement after eight months of negotiations then they do not really want to keep such an important player in their squad. That’s why this decision has come – it’s a well-thought-out decision.
“Everyone will have their opinion but I think he needs to resume his career. The time has come.”
Martial was in and out of the starting XI in the recent Man United season, but still managed 11 goals and nine assists in 45 appearances.
The left-winger, who can also be deployed as a centre-forward, is battling alongside the likes of Marcus Rashford, Alexis Sanchez and Jesse Lingard for a starting XI position in Jose Mourinho’s side.
He has been with the Red Devils since 2015 and is an extremely highly-rated talent, but it seems like he could be on the move.
Liverpool fans on social media have suggested that Martial would be a brilliant addition to the squad at Anfield and provide perfect cover for the front three of Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah.
One supporter suggested that he would be able to replace creator Philippe Coutinho after he left for Barcelona in January, but the feeling is that bitter rivals Man United won’t sell to them.
