The writing was on the wall for Williams after he spent the first half of last season on loan at Rochdale and then failed to make the Under-23s  when he returned to the Kirby academy in the new year. After being frozen out, Williams would have not expected to be offered a new contract by the club he joined as a 13-year-old. The midfield anchorman is a fine player good enough to play for the first team in September 2014, but he has not kicked on from that point, with three lower league loan spells proof of where he was in pecking order. Signing for Rochdale on a permanent basis is a great move for Williams, who has the quality to carve out a fine Football League career. There will also be little in the way of upheaval for the Bangor-born ace, as the journey to the Lancashire club on the foothills of the south penines will only be a short one.
