Liverpool are working on a deal to loan midfield flop Lazar Markovic to Olympiakos next season, according to Page News.

The Greek outlet claim the Merseyside giants are willing to pay half the 24-year-old’s £34,000-a-week wages in order to secure him another spell away from Anfield.

Page News report that Liverpool are desperate to get Markovic off their books and he is also keen to end his miserable spell at Liverpool, where his contract runs until the summer of 2019.

OPINION

It is a measure of how much Markovic has flopped that Liverpool are going to half to pay half his wages just to loan him out to a Greek club for the final year of his contract. The Merseysiders have got plenty right in the transfer market in the last year or two, but the Serbian attacking midfielder is proof that there are some bum signings still on the payroll. Markovic has been loaned out four times already since his one season in the Liverpool first team was enough to prove his game is not suited at all to the Premier League. Those spells at Sporting Lisbon, Fenerbahce, Hull City and Anderlecht have been either disastrous, pretty bad or okay, with the time under Marco Silva in Humberside the most successful of the lot. Quite who recommended spending £20million on the one-paced Markovic remains unclear, but the sooner he is off the club’s books, the better. That has been crystal clear for a long time.
