Liverpool have made a counteroffer to Real Madrid in their pursuit of Mohamed Salah by asking for £87.8million and winger Marco Asensio in return for their star player’s services, according to Diario Gol.

The Spanish publication claim that the Reds originally slapped an £175million price tag on Salah’s head before sharing that they would practically half their demand if  Madrid threw their 22-year-old into the deal.

Diario Goal reported that while Jurgen Klopp is keen on Asensio and Madrid president Florentino Perez would be willing to use the player as a bargaining chip, the winger himself is determined to be a success at the Spanish giants.

Good move for Liverpool?

Yes in some ways.

Madrid are apparently as determined as ever to sign Salah and this counteroffer could have two outcomes.

Either the Reds get a significant payday and a talented 22-year attacking winger, who will only get better, or the offer on the table will simply finally stop Madrid’s pursuit as they know they can’t meet the Reds’ demands.

While it borders on unthinkable to wave goodbye to Salah as he is the star player at Anfield after his amazing 2017/18 campaign, if Madrid are foolish to want to pay that sort of money and give the Merseyside club such a great talent, it borders on rude not to accept.

Likely to happen?

No.

Diario Gol will continue to link Salah with a move to Madrid even if he signed a 100-year contract with the Reds so it’s hard to believe any report that comes from the site about the player.

While it could be true that the Reds have made this stunning demand of the Spanish giants, it could clearly just be a way of putting off Madrid chasing their star player in this window.

All signs point to the fact that Salah is beyond happy at Anfield and that doesn’t look like changing anytime soon.

So the Reds fans can read reports from Diario Gol and just be amused by the huge offers that they believe are about to be submitted for Salah.
