Liverpool defender Jon Flanagan has jetted out to Spain to complete a Rangers medical, according to the Daily Record.

The newspaper claims that the 25-year-old will link up with the Gers at their pre-season training camp in southern Spain and undergo a medical ahead of a switch to Ibrox.

It is understood he will provide competition for the Light Blues in the full-back positions and be Steven Gerrard’s seventh new signing if his move goes through.

Liverpool have already confirmed that one-time capped England international Flanagan will be departing this summer following the expiration of his contract this month and it seems like Ibrox is his destination.

OPINION

Flanagan looks miles off the player that broke into the Liverpool first team back in the 2013/14 season and a fresh move now seems like the right thing for his career. The right-back has lost his way a bit since a long-term injury and has not really rediscovered his best touch out on loan. He looks set to become the latest player to join the Steven Gerrard era in Scotland and there is every chance he could be a success for them. Meanwhile, it is good to see Reds manager Jurgen Klopp offloading the deadwood in his squad this summer and his team look well placed ahead of next season. They have Trent Alexander-Arnold as the outstanding option at right-back for them, while Joe Gomez and Nathaniel Clyne are also other senior options to slot into the defence. Liverpool could perhaps still do with an extra top-class centre-back option in their squad and then they can start dreaming of silverware again at Anfield.
