Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola delivered his verdict on Liverpool’s title chances by sharing that in his opinion they are definitely a contender next season.

The Man City boss shared that he considered the Reds one of the best teams in Europe and stated that they are always a potential title-winning team as proven by their history.

The Reds are set to face Manchester City in the International Champions Cup (ICC) on Wednesday, tonight, and Guardiola highlighted three players from Jurgen Klopp’s side that he expected to test his young team.

“It’s nice for the young players that we have,” Guardiola said in his press conference on Tuesday, as quoted by Manchester City’s official site.

“We’re going to play against one of the best teams in Europe – Champions League finalists.

“The young players will play against Mo Salah, Virgil Van Dijk, James Milner… It will be a good experience for them to see what you have to do to achieve a high level.

“It will be good practice to see how the players react in an important game.

“Liverpool is always a contender to win the title, with the history they have, they are always a contender.”

OPINION

It seems Guardiola is hoping that Mohamed Salah, Virgil Van Dijk and James Milner put in a good performance for the Reds in order to teach some of his youngsters what level he would like to see them play at. The Spanish manager clearly rates those three Reds players and it’s hard to blame him as all of them were standout performers for Klopp’s team last season. Also while the Reds should be clearly seen as a contenders for the Premier League title it is nice to hear another manager publicly acknowledge it, especially when it’s the boss who guided his team to league success last season. The Spanish manager probably has no doubts in his mind that the Reds will at the very least push his side to the limit this season when it comes to lifting silverware. The Reds have done some fabulous business in the summer transfer window so far and clearly look like having an even stronger squad then they did for the last campaign.
