Liverpool have commenced talks with Middlesbrough over a £10million permanent exit for winger Sheyi Ojo, according to the Sun.

The newspaper report that the Reds are willing to sell the speedster for a suitable price and Boro are keen to land him to replace Adama Traore if he departs the club.

Liverpool farmed out the 21-year-old on loan last season to Fulham where he did not have a successful campaign with the Cottagers, who were not keen on the idea of taking him back on a permanent basis following their promotion to the Premier League.

OPINION

This transfer development of winger Sheyi Ojo is just the news that Liverpool needed. They need to recoup cash for the youngster following a heavy summer of spending, and there is no better way to do that than offload him to a Championship club. The Reds deemed him surplus to requirements obviously, and valuing him at £10 million is good business by the club. His disappointing season at Fulham has certainly not done him any favours with boss Jurgen Klopp, who already has a strong attack. He will thrive at a club like Middlesbrough, as he is much better suited to playing in the Championship with the level he is currently at – playing for a big club like Liverpool in the Premier League is not going to help him and will only put extra pressure on him. It is a relief to the Reds that he may potentially be off the books, as he was not going to get near the first team any time soon.
