Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has reportedly decided not to buy a new centre-back this summer despite Joel Matip’s recent injury, and some fans have taken to Twitter to react to the news.
As reported by the Liverpool Echo, the Reds hold no interest in Besiktas defender Domagoj Vida despite heavy speculation, and Klopp will not dip into the market for another centre-back before the end of the window.
A section of Liverpool fans have now taken to Twitter to react to the decision, with many seemingly worried by the prospect of starting the season short at the back.

How is Klopp happy with CB options when there is literally 0 options? Just two starters and that's it.

So you are saying we are starting the season with vvd and Gomez or klavan as CB..ok

Matip injury prone, Lovren error prone, Klavan not good enough, Gomez promising but young & never really plays CB for us. #Alderweirweld & #Godin would both tighten up the defence until #Gomez is ready. We should be interested in 1 of the 2.

We are a VVD injury away from playing Lovren with Klavan, forget Matip..City have Laporte, Stones, Otamendi & Kompany there..

This is absurd and stupid. We start the season with Lovren and VVD. Good. Then who's there for back up to rely on? No one. No one. Gómez? Klavan? A very unreliable Matip? CHRIST ?

OPINION
These fans seem unconvinced by Klopp’s reported decision, and it is easy to see why. Dejan Lovren has shown huge improvements over the last six months or so, but the Croatian is still a liability at times. The first-choice pairing of him and Virgil van Dijk works well enough, but what if one of them was to suffer a serious injury? That would leave the club with Matip, Ragnar Klavan and Joe Gomez as alternatives, none of whom are yet to show they can perform consistently at the top level. If the Reds really want to challenge Manchester City next season, they need a new centre-back, it is that simple.
