Liverpool have announced that Joel Matip will fly home from their tour of the US after suffering another injury setback, and some fans have taken to Twitter to brutally call on the club to sell the 26-year-old.
As reported on the club’s official website, Matip will jet back to Liverpool to continue his recovery at Melwood after limping out of their 3-1 loss to Borussia Dortmund on Sunday.
It is said that the injury is not thought to be a long-term issue, but the Cameroon international will play no part in the club’s further two remaining fixtures in the USA.
Fans have now reacted on Twitter to the news, with many calling on the club to sign a new centre-back amid Matip’s continuing injury woes.

OPINION
It is a shame to see Matip suffer another injury, but positive news to hear that the issue is not expected to put him out for the long-term. However, this latest problem again raises questions over his fitness, with the Cameroon international having spent such a large chunk of his Liverpool career on the sidelines. Liverpool fans are obviously getting frustrated by the 26-year-old’s injury issues, and it is hard to blame them. The Reds will need centre-backs they can rely on if they want to win silverware in the coming season, and it is beginning to look like Matip is not such a player.
