Borussia Dortmund midfielder Christian Pulisic has not been short of interest – including from Liverpool – despite only being 19-years-old.
The 5’7″ (source: Transfermarkt) right-sided flyer’s performances for both club and country – he represents the United States internationally – has warranted him interest from the Premier League.
These top-flight clubs are Liverpool and more recently Chelsea – but according to ESPN, the young winger is set to stay in the Bundesliga this season as there have not been any bids tabled from the Reds.
This revelation will certainly be a major blow for the Merseyside outfit, as his addition to their team could have been the difference between them and their rivals.
Liverpool already have a wealth of attacking talent, but Pulisic appeared to be the exception – and it is not surprising given that he has been one of the Bundesliga’s brightest talents of late.
It goes to show that Pulisic had something about him that Liverpool’s current crop of players do not.
This may have been a major blow to boss Jurgen Klopp – who had Pulisic at his disposal when Dortmund manager – and his side, but they do not need to be fazed by the news, as they can rest easy at night knowing that losing out on him is not the worst thing that could happen to them.
They have a breadth of players to choose from, but if they really are intent of bringing him to Anfield, Pulisic could be sold in next summer’s transfer window.
By then, he would have developed his talent even further, and an extra season in the Bundesliga with a top club like Borussia Dortmund may just help him progress into a player capable of taking the step into the Premier League.
It may just be a blessing in disguise that he has not been green lighted an exit to the Premier League this time around, and Liverpool must be grateful for the fact he is open for the taking next year when he will be an even better player.
