Manchester United midfielder Marouane Fellaini is in the running to sign for fierce rivals Liverpool, according to Football Whispers

The Belgian international – who starred for his country at this summer’s World Cup and netted in the last 16 clash against Japan – signed for the Red Devils in 2013 after five year spell with Everton.

The 6’4″ (source: Transfermarkt) colossus recently penned a new two year contract at Old Trafford to keep him at the club until 2020, as revealed on the club’s official website.

Football Whispers – which is used by the likes of Sky Sports – rounds up claims of transfers from around the world and calculates the likelihood of a player signing for a club based on that information.

Fellaini scored 2.9 out of five, and is the only player linked with Liverpool on the site.

OPINION

This whisper seems like a very unlikely one at the moment. Fellaini penned a new contract at Manchester United over a month ago, so the possibility of signing him is not a possible prospect. He may be a tactical fit for the Reds but he will not be moving to them any time soon. Manchester United are not likely to sell one of their best players to one of their biggest rivals for the title – he has had a mixed time during his current spell at the club. He has been a kingpin in the Belgium team for a while and he has the experience to thrive at a top team like Liverpool, but United are also a top team – so there is no point in him moving. The move would not benefit either side, so this calculation seems rather far-fetched.
