Liverpool’s new midfield signing Fabinho could miss the club’s first game of the season, according to the Liverpool Echo.

The outlet claims that the Brazilian defensive midfielder suffered a muscle injury in the pre-season friendly against Torino.

The report reveals that the club will monitor their new signing over the next 48 hours and may start Jordan Henderson in his place.

The 24-year-old signed for the Reds from French side AS Monaco this summer for a reported fee of £43million.

OPINION

This is a massive blow to Jurgen Klopp ahead of their opening Premier League fixture. With Jordan Henderson only recently returning from his summer holidays after his excursions with the English National team at the 2018 World Cup, it was hoped that Fabinho would provide some depth to the defensive midfielder position but with the Brazilian struggling with injury, they look a little short in that area after Emre Can left for Juventus this summer. It would be a big gamble to play Henderson after he’s only had a short amount of training under his belt and he may not be ready for the rigours of the Premier League. However, it would be the same gamble to play Fabinho, if he’s still struggling with a muscle injury then it’s too risky to play him in the opening game. It looks like Jurgen Klopp has a big decision on his hands for the first game of the season.
