Loris Kairus has thanked Liverpool fans for the reception they gave him as he made his first Anfield appearance since the Champions League final.

The goalkeeper posted via his personal Twitter account to thank the Anfield crowd for their support towards him, uploading a video off himself taking to the pitch.

“Thank you Anfield for this reception,” he said.

The German shot-stopper came on for new world-record signing Alisson with 18 minutes remaining in the Reds’ 3-1 friendly win over Torino.

The Brazilian number one left the field to a standing ovation but the home crowd cheered even louder when the 25-year-old made his entrance onto the field.

It was Karius’ first appearance at Anfield since he played in the Champions League final against Real Madrid, making two mistakes in a game which left the German in tears.

OPINION

After the nightmare of Kiev, things are starting to be looking up for Lorius Karius after the support he received from the Liverpool fans. His mistakes were partly to blame for Liverpool’s defeat in the Champions League final, which will have shattered Karius’ confidence, but he now needs to move on and prove why Liverpool signed him. After Allison’s big-money move to Anfield, Karius will not be featuring on a regular basis but will be a solid back-up if Jurgen Klopp ever requires the German for cup matches. The Liverpool fans have forgiven Karius for his errors and will be hoping that this season is their year for great success. It looks as if Karius will still retain the number one jersey he wore last season after including a hashtag in his tweet reading ‘#LK1’ but it is likely he will be the number two choice goalkeeper under Jurgen Klopp for the upcoming season.
