Nabil Fekir is not needed at Liverpool

OPINION

Following the collapse of Nabil Fekir’s big-money move to Liverpool, would the attacker have been needed in an already dominant attacking squad?

Bleacher Report has recently reported that even though the move broke down earlier this summer, talks are continuing to take place between the Merseyside giants and Lyon.

However, the Reds already bestow a great deal of attacking talent, with the likes of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane leading the line.

The club’s transfer activity this summer has seen the arrivals of Xherdan Shaqiri, Naby Keita and Fabinho to Anfield, which leaves the question of where Fekir would fit in at the club.

There is no doubt of Fekir’s ability, who scored 18 goals in 29 games in a stunning 2017/18 season before being selected for France’s World Cup winning squad this season, coming on as a substitute in the final minutes of the final against Croatia.

However, there is no guarantee that Fekir will light up the Premier League as many high-profile stars have failed to adapt in the top flight after huge money moves and have often been offloaded the following season for a much lower fee.

The Express claim that league rivals Chelsea are interested in luring Fekir to Stamford Bridge, and may require Jurgen Klopp to launch another bid for the Frenchman.

Although the Liverpool boss is keen in a replacement for Philippe Coutinho, there are other positions that Klopp must target first such as the back four.

Liverpool clearly showed their capabilities in front of goal last season but it was at the other end in which they struggled and, with injuries to centre-backs, need to sort their defensive issues out before the league campaign gets underway.
