Liverpool are in ongoing talks to sign Lyon midfielder Nabil Fekir as the transfer saga surrounding the France international rumbles on, according Bleacher Report.

The football website claim that talks regarding a transfer for the attacking playmaker remain ongoing between the Reds and the Ligue 1 giants, and that they “have never totally gone away” despite French newspaper Le Progres reported in July that talks had halted.

Liverpool are in hope of reaching a last minute agreement with the French outfit, as Fekir has stated that he wants to make the move to Merseyside – but the club president continues to infuriate Liverpool by being difficult to deal with in negotiations.

Fekir underwent a medical with the Reds earlier this summer but it is understood that the deal fell through as Liverpool wanted to make some alterations from their agreement.

OPINION

The saga involving Fekir and Liverpool has continuously been a case of a ‘will they, won’t they?’. The Reds will undoubtedly be hoping that if a move goes through for the Frenchman, then all the hassle in snapping him up will be worth it. As he demonstrated for France at the World Cup, he is an attacker of quality and calibre, and they are assets that he will surely bring to Anfield if everything goes according to plan. He has by far been one of Lyon’s standout players in the 2017/2018 campaign, netting 23 goals and registering eight assists in the process, so it is not surprising that the Reds were alerted to his services in the first place. Liverpool are lacking somewhat in this position, and the possible addition of Fekir will hopefully fill the gap left by Phillipe Coutinho. However, it remains to be seen whether Liverpool can wrap up a deal for the international by Thursday, especially with how the move broke down last time.
