Stan Collymore waxed lyrical about Manchester City attacker Sergio Aguero while claiming that the position of centre-forward was an area Liverpool needed to improve in.
The outspoken pundit stated via his personal Twitter account that while he loved Roberto Firmino, the Reds lacked a centre-forward who scored match winning goals.
Collymore opted to compare the Brazilian to Man City forward Aguero by saying that if you offered fans globally a choice between the two then they picked the option whose goals have led to league titles, which would be the Argentinean.
Incorrect.
Liverpool finished 22 points off Manchester City.
That's 7 wins and 1 draw.
Even accounting for Liverpool's better defensive capability, I'll repeat for football novices..
It's match winning goals and match winners that Liverpool need not "overall goals scored". https://t.co/hoir9MjWki

I'll give football fans globally a choice.
Aguero or Bobby to score may h winning goals to win titles.
You can run around all you like but only one measure counts.
Match. Winning. Goals.
It's real football, not FIFA.
Innit. https://t.co/lO6QQmKQMc

Hi Chief.
Going to point out something obvious.
City won the title by 7 wins and a draw over LFC with the LFC trinity at ( I'd suggest), max output.
So explain that? Or are you, like many others going to come out with..
"We didn't have VVD"
VVD worth TWENTY TWO POINTS? ? https://t.co/9vwX96wIhI

I'm not knocking Firmino! Love him!
But often fans get roped into loving players rather than coldly analysing potential areas for improvement.
Centre forward IS an area of improvement for Liverpool.
It really is!
Match. Winning. Goals. From. A. Central. Striker. https://t.co/JjbjDvuTwK

OPINION
Collymore won’t budge on this opinion that the Reds need to a centre-forward capable of scoring match-winning goals even though he is making the remarks days after Firmino scored at the last minute in order for his side to beat PSG 3-2. The outspoken pundit seems convinced that the Reds need a player similar to Aguero, who he appears to rate very highly, as the Man City forward grabs goals that lead to silverware. Aguero scored 21 goals in 25 league outings last season whereas Firmino grabbed 15 goals in 35 Premier League appearances for the Reds. So purely on a numbers basis then you can see why Collymore is perhaps leaning to ranking the Man City forward clearly above his Liverpool counterpart. However Firmino delivers enough goals when played in a central position and offers a lot more than just being a lethal finisher. The 26-year-old covers a lot of ground, battles for his side from the front and puts chances on the plate for his teammates to fire home. While Aguero has his fair share of assists, Firmino does come across more of a team player which should benefit Jurgen Klopp’s side when it’s all said and done.
