BeIN SPORTS pundit Andy Gray has raved about Liverpool’s recruitment, branding it as “exceptional”, while fellow presenter Richard Keys has jokingly accused them of robbery.

Liverpool have been widely considered as genuine contenders to usurp Manchester City as Premier League champions this season, which has only been reinforced by their unbeaten start to the 2018/19 campaign.

The outspoken pundit, along with guest John Collins and Richard Keys, named the players that the Reds have signed in recent years that have gone on to become serious talents, such as Sadio Mane, Mo Salah and Andrew Robertson.

“Their recruitment has been good, you can’t fault Liverpool with their recruitment over the last few years, you really can’t – it’s been exceptional,” he told beIN SPORTS.

Collins concurred, adding: “They signed Mane from Southampton, he wasn’t a world-beater. Salah – when he arrived, he wasn’t a world-beater.”

“[Jurgen] Klopp has hung his hats on the likes of Robertson at £8 million, which is theft, there should be an enquiry really – that was a wonderful piece of business,” Keys chipped in.

OPINION

These three pundits are right – Liverpool have been exceptional in terms of recruitment. The way that they have turned some fairly ordinary players into serious talents is staggering, especially if you consider that Chelsea deemed Mo Salah surplus to requirements a while ago. As for Robertson, as Keys said, it was a “wonderful piece of business” – and he could not be more accurate. Since replacing Alberto Moreno as first choice left-back, Robertson has excelled, and he is arguably now one of the best left-backs in the Premier League. This is all down to Jurgen Klopp, and his decision to instate the Scot in the first team on regular basis. Yes, these players who have become serious talents is not all down to him – but he does play a major part in it all. Without him, they may not have become the players that they are now – and they only have their manager to thank.
