Liverpool will potentially know the full details of Bobby Adekanye’s injury in the next 24 hours, according to the Liverpool Echo.

The regional newspaper reports on its website that the 19-year-old sustained a knee injury late on in Friday’s 4-0 hammering by Arsenal in Premier League 2 after landing in an awkward position following a foul.

The under-23s winger has worryingly suffered a lot of swelling around his right knee, but the Liverpool Echo report that the teenage ace is making good progress and that he is able to walk around without any help.

The Reds will know the full details of the injury in the next day and how long he could potentially be sidelined for.

OPINION

An injury setback for any player is undoubtedly a huge blow, not least for a young player like Adekanye. He has got off to a great start with Liverpool’s under-23 side – three days prior to sustaining the injury, he scored a stunner in the UEFA Youth League against Paris Saint-Germain, a clash which they went onto to win 5-2. He has made an excellent start to the season, so it would be very unfortunate for him if he ended up with an extended stay on the sidelines. Fingers crossed that this does not happen, as he is obviously a pivotal player for the development side based on his exploits so far. A spell out of action would only hamper the form that he is currently in, and there is a risk of that happening after injuring his knee – but his eagerness once he returns should more than make up for it.
