Former Liverpool winger Luis Garcia heaped praise on 21-year-old Joe Gomez and claimed that he thought the player had improved a lot since his last run in the team.

The 40-year-old, who featured 77 times for the Reds between 2004 and 2007, revealed that he thought the defender would continue to improve and had all the attributes to be world-class.

“Joe is back playing in his natural position and has improved a lot since his last run of games in the side,” stated Garcia in an interview with 5times.

“He’s still young and will go on to learn a lot more; he seems very composed, quick, strong and confident on the ball.

“He has all the attributes to become a world-class defender and the partnership he is forming with Virgil has been outstanding.”

Gomez has starred in all of his side’s Premier League games so far and Jurgen Klopp has opted to utilise him as centre-back instead of right-back where he made majority of his appearances last season.

OPINION

Garcia has opted to wax lyrical about the Reds’ promising defender and has boldly tipped him to eventually be deemed world-class in the future. Hopefully the former Reds attacker is right with his prediction as if Gomez continues to improve then it will be the Merseyside giants that reap the rewards. Several ex-players and pundits have spoken highly of the 21-year-old in recent weeks as he has started the season strongly but hopefully his form continues to stop him just being the flavour of the month when it’s time to look back on the season. The defender also looked component at right-back but it’s clear that when deployed in his natural position of centre-back, he is able to take his game to the next level. It’s worth nothing that Garcia covered several intriguing subjects during his recent interview with 5times which is worth checking out but it was particularly nice to hear his assessment of Gomez’s talents.
