Many Liverpool fans on social media slammed defender Trent Alexander-Arnold for his first-display against Chelsea on Saturday.

The Reds went into the half-time break 1-0 down to due to Eden Hazard scoring for the Blues and many pointed their fingers at Alexander-Arnold to blame him for their side conceding.

One Reds supporter tweeted that the right-back was lazy during that portion of play while another claimed that the teenager had gone wandering out of position and his side had been made to pay.

OPINION

It’s very harsh by Liverpool fans to slam Alexander-Arnold for his part in the goal as no member of the defence covered themselves in glory. However it seems the teenager bore the brunt of the criticism as he struggled across the whole of the first 45 minutes. While Alexander-Arnold is still learning, fans can be unforgiving if they believe it’s his mistakes that cost them points. The 19-year-old needs to learn from the experience at the very least because as one fan pointed out, he was a little naive during the first-half and that got exposed by an experienced Chelsea side. Hopefully the defender is able to learn quickly though as he looks to best option Jurgen Klopp has at right-back right now. While Nathaniel Clyne is waiting in the wings to take Alexander-Arnold’s first-team spot, the defender didn’t look fantastic during the EFL Cup clash with Chelsea in midweek, so hopefully the teenager will recover from this little blip.
