Liverpool attacker Sheyi Ojo claimed that the opportunity to feature for the club’s first-team could arise next season when opening up about his decision to join French side Reims on loan.

The speedy winger shared that you never know what could happen following his loan spell in Ligue 1 this season and that he was just aiming to showcase his talents for the club.

Ojo, who has previously had loans spell at Fulham, Wolves and Wigan, revealed that it’s up to Jurgen Klopp to give him opportunities as he feels he has done everything he can to break into the first-team so far.

“Obviously, Reims has given me the opportunity to play regular football and I am pretty excited for the season, so hopefully it will be a good one,” the Reds winger told  BBC Sport.

“The main aim is to use this as a platform. It’s up to the Liverpool manager to give me the opportunities. I feel like so far I’ve done what I can to get the opportunity, obviously it hasn’t come.

“Hence, why I am on loan and hopefully after this loan spell you never know what could happen. Opportunity could arise next season.

“I have some goals of my own, but I’ll keep it to myself. Now it’s just to help Reims do as well as they can. The main focus is to do well, shine as much as I can. Just to showcase what I can do in France and all around Europe.”

OPINION

Ojo only has 13 senior Reds appearances to his name and has never truly been able to break down the barrier that lies between the first team and the youth set up at the club. The speed demon has several things going for him and clearly there is hope that he will one day feature for the first team on a regular basis. While on loan at Fulham last season the winger was only able to showcase his talents in glimpses before losing his regular place in the Cottagers side. As Ojo openly admits that he is using Reims as a platform to showcase his potential then the one thing he must prove above all else is that he can be a consistent player. Klopp won’t look to use him for the first team next season if the 21-year-old is unable to string several good performances together like he has previously and that must be an issue the starlet addresses this season. Hopefully Ojo is able to bring all his skills together at Reims as the Reds could always do with another pacey outlet like the winger in order to have one of the most potent attacks in Europe.
