Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum has heaped praise on boss Jurgen Klopp, calling the German one of the best managers in the world.

The Anfield side’s fortunes have improved dramatically since the former Borussia Dortmund man took over, and Wijnaldum, on a reported £90,000-per-week [Source: Spotrac], is thrilled to be working under him.

“He is a really good person who tries to help the players,” he told the Liverpool Echo. “As a manager I think he’s one of the best in the world. He is good with tactics and the way he wants to play football. He never changes formation for an opponent, even if the opponent is really good.

“He is also a very emotional coach during the game and even during training, but I’m very happy with that because since I’ve been here he has made me a better player and I don’t think I speak only for myself but also for the other players.”

OPINION

There’s no doubt that what Wijanldum is saying is correct. It took a little while for Klopp to really put his stamp on Liverpool after replacing Brendan Rodgers, but he has now very much got the squad that he wants. He does need to go on and start winning trophies with Liverpool now, as they have obviously come up short in a couple of European finals since he joined, but a restocking of the Anfield trophy cabinet feels inevitable under the German. His achievements at Dortmund and now on Merseyside have shown that he is one of the very best managers in the world. If his Liverpool side can continue their phenomenal start to the season and go on to win the Premier League this year then it will truly cement him in the Pep Guardiola, Jose Mourinho, Carlo Ancelotti sort of club. It says a lot about him that Wijnaldum is so effusive in his praise, though, and that strong relationship with his players can only behoove Liverpool moving forward.
