Stan Collymore named Liverpool attacker Sadio Mane in his Team of the Week but claimed the player had an off day against Cardiff City on Saturday.

The outspoken pundit included Mane as well as Mohamed Salah in his latest Team of the Week following the Reds’ 4-1 victory against the Bluebirds.

Both attackers got on the scoresheet against Neil Warnock’s side, with Mane grabbing a brace, but Collymore shared that he thought the Senegal international showed his ability to impress while having an off day.

“Superb two goals and showed can always be danger even on off day,” wrote Collymore when explaining why he included Mane in his Team of the Week for the Daily Mirror.

OPINION

Collymore clearly thought Mane’s goals were of the highest quality, as he described them as superb, but the rest of his explanation is bizarre. Mane is capable of destroying Premier League teams and could have performed even better against Cardiff, but he didn’t exactly have an off day. However if that was a so-called off day for the Reds attacker then his opponents should start trembling in fear over the thought of facing him now. The 26-year-old took his opportunities to score and will be looking to keep among the goals in the coming weeks. Mane’s goals against Cardiff meant that he has now scored six times in the league during the current campaign. This means that he is impressively only four goals off equalling his total amount of league goals for last season, which was ten, and that spells good news for the Reds. The left-sided winger clearly has a major part to play in Jurgen Klopp’s quest for trophies this season and hopefully he is able to do his bit.
