Liverpool midfield duo Jordan Henderson and Naby Keita have been ruled out of the clash against Cardiff City this weekend.

Jurgen Klopp has confirmed in his pre-match press conference – via the club’s official Twitter account – that the 28-year-old and 23-year-old are not in contention to face the Bluebirds when the two sides face each other at Anfield this Saturday.

Henderson missed the Champions League clash with Red Star on Wednesday after sustaining an injury against Huddersfield Town last week, while Keita has been absent since sustaining a hamstring strain on international duty earlier this month.

OPINION

The fact that both players are out for yet another match will be a major blow to Jurgen Klopp. Even though he has the likes of Gini Wijnaldum and James Milner to call upon, he will no doubt be gutted that Keita is still recovering from injury. He was in fine form at the start of the season, but that has now been stalled after suffering a setback over the international break. Henderson being absent will also be a major blow, but not as much as Keita will be. Yes, Henderson has filled in superbly while the likes of Milner were out, but he will not be as much of a loss to the team as Keita will be. It is a shame to see such a talented player sidelined for so long, but Liverpool fans will no doubt have their fingers crossed that he makes a speedy recovery and returns to action soon.
