Liverpool are among four top teams in the hunt for red-hot PSV sensation Steven Bergwijn, according to Sport.

The Spanish newspaper report that the Reds are closely tracking the 21-year-old forward, who has scored five goals and registered four assists in all competitions already this season.

Sport claim that Bergwijn’s current deal with Champions League side PSV, which runs until 2022, has a release clause set at £17.5million.

It is said that Manchester United are also in the hunt for the winger, with Barcelona and AC Milan lurking in the background.

OPINION

Bergwijn is one of the rising stars of European football, so it is not a surprise to see that there are now four big teams credited with an interest in his signature. The forward, who has just turned 21, cemented his place in the PSV first-team two seasons ago, and has gone from strength-to-strength since then. It was last season in which he really nailed down his first-team spot, scoring eight goals and supplying eleven assists in 36 games in all competitions. This season he is already showing improvement for Eredivisie champions PSV, with five goals and four assists an impressive haul considering he is normally deployed in wide areas. This looks like it could be the season in which Bergwijn really breaks into the mainstream of European football, and it would not be a surprise to see him move on from his boyhood club come the summer. Liverpool could well be his destination if he continues this kind of form.
