Steve McManaman delivered his verdict on Liverpool ahead of them clashing with Napoli in the Champions League on Wednesday evening.

The former Reds player shared that Jurgen Klopp’s  team were now feared in the competition because of their great season last year and that the club would be fine if their front three kept scoring.

McManaman also shared that he expected Napoli to be very positive in Wednesday’s game and heaped praise on their manager Carlo Ancelotti.

“They’re feared now because they had a great season last year, especially the front three, as long as they score goals then they will be fine but the midfielders have impressed me a lot because they are the ones who have been under the most pressure from new signings,” said the BT Sport pundit in episode one of No Filter UCL: Napoli v Liverpool.

“Well I expect Napoli to very positive, Carlo is a great manger, very experienced, won the Champions League many times and will want to get a good victory against them, but it should be some game.”

OPINION

McManaman is right to be impressed by the Reds’ midfield as it’s causes Jurgen Klopp a welcomed headache currently. James Milner and Georginio Wijnaldum are in the form of their lives and that is keeping Naby Keita and Fabinho from establishing themselves in the first-team after joining the club in the summer. While the former Reds player and current BT Sport pundit is expecting Napoli to play in a positive way, hopefully it doesn’t lead to them getting the victory they no doubt desire. The Reds should benefit from the side going out to attack them rather than one that shuts up shop as they should leave enough space for the likes Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane to excel. It will be a close encounter in Italy on Wednesday night but the Reds will put the contest on notice in its early stages if they secure a vital win away from home. However life isn’t set to get any easier as the Reds have to face Premier League title rivals Man City at the weekend.
