Chris Sutton claimed that Liverpool forward Daniel Sturridge was worth between £60million and £70million during his side’s win over Huddersfield Town

The pundit, regularly heard on BBC 5 Live, shared that he thought the rarely-seen 29-year-old English attacker was a real talent before suggesting that injuries would have left him psychologically damaged.

Sutton added that he was happy to see Sturridge back fit and playing following his terrible time with injuries during recent years.

“He’s a £60-£70million striker Daniel Sturridge, he is such a talent,” said Sutton while on commentary for BT Sport during the win over Huddersfield on Saturday (18:38).

“Just in terms of injuries, he has been psychologically damaged over the years due to injuries, so good to see him back fit and playing.”

OPINION

The BBC pundit doesn’t shy away from controversial opinions and this is another case of that. Sutton previously raised eyebrows at the start of October when he stated that Sturridge was worth £50-60million, as reported by Express, yet he added on another £10million to the player’s price tag during Saturday’s game. It’s a bold mega-money claim as due to Sturridge’s injury record it’s hard to value him so high, as no club is going to risk that sort of money trying to purchase him off the Reds’ hands. In fact most probably would think twice about gambling £10million on him. This isn’t a reflection of Sturridge’s talents by any means as it’s clear that the forward is as good as any other attacker in the Premier League on his day. However his injury record cannot be ignore and while it is good to see him playing for Jurgen Klopp’s side once again, Sutton may have gone over the top with his praise.
