BBC pundit Chris Sutton has praised Liverpool for winning ugly in their 1-0 victory over Huddersfield Town on Saturday.

The Reds had to work hard to secure all three points at the John Smith’s Stadium, with Mohamed Salah’s first half strike the difference between the two teams.

And Sutton reserved special praise for the Egyptian: “Winning ugly wins titles…,” he tweeted on his personal Twitter account. “Liverpool crucial 3 points with Salah the difference.

“Huddersfield supporters superb backing for their team,” he added, giving praise to the Terriers fans who were in fine voice throughout the contest.

OPINION

Sutton is absolutely spot on, winning ugly is a staple of all good title winning teams. You can’t always be at 100%, as Manchester City were in their 5-0 demolition of Burnley on Saturday, sometimes it’s about grinding out victories when you’re not at your best. Liverpool certainly weren’t firing on all cylinders against David Wagner’s side, however they got the job done with an efficient display. Having come off the international break with numerous injuries it was vital that the Reds got all three points today, however they got them, and that’s what they did. Salah was indeed the difference as his strike secured the win for Jurgen Klopp’s men. He showed true predatory instinct to poke the ball past Jonas Lossl and that was enough for Liverpool today. They don’t all have to be pretty, and every victory counts as much as the others when the points are tallied up at the end of the season.
