Steven Gerrard is been in awe of Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, labelling him as “so good at handling the pressure”.

Gerrard – who is now manager of Rangers – says that the best trait of the Reds boss is his ability to switch off, and that he is able to handle his emotions once a match is over, no matter what the final result was.

The Anfield legend says that this is why Klopp is able to work under pressure so well, despite the fact that he gets really “emotional” when he is on the touchline.

“I could never be Jürgen with his charisma and energy. But if I can take a few things from him it will be such a help,” he said in an interview with the Guardian.

“Jürgen’s really good at switching off. When the game is on he’s very emotional but once it’s over he can park the emotion.

“That’s why he’s so good at handling the pressure. After cup finals and a big setback he’ll be the one to start the party.”

OPINION

Despite the fact that Gerrard never worked under Klopp as a player himself, he is one person who knows the German really well. Klopp has been touted as the manager who has brought the most success to Anfield, and that could not be nearer to the truth. His ability to switch off and handle his emotions after games are played are just some of the things that make him one of the best managers in the Premier League. This was particularly evident after Liverpool’s defeat to Real Madrid in the Champions League Final in May. Even though the Reds lost thanks to two clangers from then goalkeeper Loris Karius, Klopp remained calm despite recognising just how significant winning the trophy would be. This is the trait of a great boss, as it is clear that the players totally respect him. Either way, it would be hard not to see Liverpool win silverware under the guidance of Klopp – especially after the way Gerrard has spoken about him.
