Liverpool have entered the hunt for exciting West Ham United midfielder Declan Rice, according to the Express.

The newspaper claims that the Reds are one of a number of teams interested in the 19-year-old, with Manchester United, Arsenal, Everton and Borussia Dortmund all named by the paper.

However, the Red Devils are thought to be in pole position for the teenager, who has burst onto the scene at the London Stadium in the past year or so.

The Express’ report claims that Rice is on just £3,500-per-week at West Ham, and has rejected an extension offer worth around £20,000-per-week.

OPINION

This is an interesting one for Liverpool. Rice is without doubt one of the most intriguing young talents in English football, but the Reds are pretty well stocked for central midfielders at this moment in time. With the likes of Jordan Henderson, Naby Keita, James Milner, Georginio Wijnaldum, Xherdan Shaqiri and Fabinho all on the books at Anfield, you do wonder where Rice would fit in. Plus, there’s the eventual return to fitness of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, which would put another spanner in the works for manager Jurgen Klopp. With all that said it will be interesting to see how much of a chase Liverpool provide for Rice. There is plenty of competition for the youngster and, of course, the eminent possibility that he merely stays at the Hammers after all. Let’s see how this one plays out, but you have to think that this is a take it or leave it kind of deal for the Reds.
