Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has openly admitted that he would be very surprised if they were to sign anyone in the January transfer window, and that is understandable.

The Reds are in a great position after 12 games of the Premier League season and their Champions League destiny remains in their own hands despite a setback against Red Star Belgrade.

The squad looks extremely well-balanced, and the dressing room seems to be a harmonious environment, with players gelling well on and off the pitch.

One situation which could see them move in January would be if a player was sold, and one first-team member who could end up leaving mid-season is left-back Alberto Moreno.

The Spaniard is in the last year of his contract and is not set to earn an extension, meaning the club need to cash in during the January window or lose him on a free.

At the moment a free transfer in the summer is the likeliest option, but a January exit is still on the cards, meaning the Reds will likely need a replacement.

And, as suggested by club legend John Aldridge in his column for the Liverpool Echo, Fulham flyer Ryan Sessegnon is the perfect candidate.

The 18-year-old has struggled slightly in the Premier League this season but remains one of the best young talents in the English game who could well go on to become an Anfield favourite.

Fulham’s poor form this season mean that the dazzling teen sensation is poised to make a step up to a bigger team soon enough, and Liverpool must make sure his next destination is Anfield.

Sessegnon would be a perfect back-up for Andy Robertson at left-back while also providing a brilliant option further forward off the bench, with his searing pace giving the Reds an extra boost going forward.

The only issue would be that Sessegnon would take some persuading to make the move in January, but with Moreno’s exit not certain, a summer switch would be ideal for all parties.
