Liverpool have established themselves as one of the favourites for the Premier League title this season, and that is all down to the current crop of players that they have.

This essentially means that players like Nathaniel Clyne – who was signed from Southampton in 2015 and has only made one appearance this season in the Carabao Cup – are not likely to be given a second thought at the moment.

Wales Online have reported that Cardiff City are interested in the frozen out Reds right-back, and they want to bring him in on loan during the January transfer window.

Amid this interest, Klopp needs to greenlight Clyne’s departure for the benefit of everyone.

He is clearly not going to get any first team opportunities at Anfield this season so there is absolutely no point in him sticking around for such a rare chance.

It also means that Clyne would be off the books temporarily and Klopp will be able to focus on the players who are able to do the job for him.

It is unfair that the 5ft 9in [Transfermarkt] ace has had no minutes under his belt at all during this campaign and it would do him the world of good if he is able to move somewhere who could give him regular game time.

It is a shame, as Clyne has now emerged as one of the many players from Southampton that Liverpool have poached, but have gone on to have rather underwhelming careers.

The 27-year-old has the potential to be a fantastic right-back, but he is unlikely to usurp the likes of Trent Alexander-Arnold for a place anytime soon.

Many Liverpool fans may think that Clyne still has something to give this season, but seeming as the club’s ambitions are very high, that is unlikely.

Time for Klopp to cut some losses and sanction a temporary exit for a player who could still fulfil his potential elsewhere.
