Liverpool’s Champions League hopes are hanging by a thread after their recent 2-1 loss to Paris Saint-Germain – and now fans have something else to be sweating about.

Talk Sport host Adrian Durham laid into Jurgen Klopp after the result, claiming that “time is running out” for the manager, adding that they have no chance of winning the Premier League title this season – even if they do remain unbeaten all year.

“I think time is out running out for Jurgen Klopp. We’re still waiting for Jurgen Klopp to win something at Liverpool,” the broadcaster said on Talk Sport.

“If they don’t get through this group it is a massive failure and it is down to the decisions he has made. There is no reason why he can’t play Trent Alexander-Arnold [against PSG]. No reason at all.

“They are second in the Premier League, so what? They might go the entire season unbeaten but they won’t win the title because Man City may go unbeaten too and pip them to it. It means yet again Liverpool will have won nothing.”

Liverpool fans will no doubt be sweating at these types of remarks, as this season has certainly been one of the closest they have ever been to usurping one of their rivals as champions.

However, the fact that he can assume that time is running out for Klopp is ludicrous – after all, the club have not been as successful in the modern era as they have under the guidance of the German coach.

Yes, Klopp is yet to prove himself at the club as he has not won anything just yet, but the fact that he was able to ensure that the Reds reached a final of three different competitions – the Champions League, the Europa League and the League Cup – demonstrates that he is closer than ever to fulfilling the fans’ expectations.

The fans will be sweating about his pessimism about their title bid, but it is safe to say that Durham is barking mad to suggest something so ludicrous about the future of their club’s manager.
