Cardiff City defender Sol Bamba has included four Liverpool players in his Premier League Team of the Week, while naming three of them as the best in the top flight at their positions.

The Bluebirds star named Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk, Andrew Robertson and Mohamed Salah amongst his selection of the division’s best from this weekend’s fixtures.

He raved about all four players: “Van Dijk is the best centre-half in the Premier League for me, no question about it,” he wrote on the Sky Sports website. “Alexander-Arnold for me is the best right-back in the country and for his age as well he’s been doing very well.

“Robertson for me is the best left-back. You always know what he will give you and [he] will always give eight out of ten. Salah has obviously been very good and he scored,” he finished.

OPINION

Liverpool’s performance against Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday wasn’t exactly a trademark display so it is slightly surprising to see so many of their players in Bamba’s Team of the Week. Obviously Salah deserves it for the influential impact he had upon the game. He was fairly quiet in the first half, but he took the game by the scruff of the neck after the break and essentially decided its outcome single-handedly. Andrew Robertson, like Salah, was immense against the Seagulls. He got up and down the left flank all day long and should have got an assist in the first half after whipping a tantalising ball into the box which Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane somehow missed. Alexander-Arnold and Van Dijk had their usual impressive outings. They are very consistent operators and that means that they don’t have to do anything particularly special sometimes to gain plaudits.
