BBC pundit Garth Crooks has named Liverpool star Mohamed Salah in his team of the week after his match-winning display v Brighton.

The Egypt international scored the only goal of the match from the penalty spot as he was fouled by Pascal Gross in the box before slotting away the resulting spot-kick.

Crooks has now highlighted Salah’s contribution to the 1-0 win by naming him in his team of the week and praising his match-winning display.

In his column for BBC Sport, Crooks said:  “I cannot believe Brighton’s Pascal Gross fell for it. We’ve all seen Mohamed Salah go down from the slightest touch in the penalty area (normally at Anfield) but there was no doubt about this one on Saturday.

“Salah teased and enticed Gross to such an extent the German just had to have a bite. The result was another penalty attributed to Salah’s ingenuity.

“The Egypt international took the spot-kick and buried it into the back of the net to extend Liverpool’s lead at the top of the table. And that’s why he’s in my team of the week.”

OPINION

As he has been so many times since arriving at Anfield, Salah was the difference for Liverpool in a tight encounter against a solid Brighton side. The Seagulls were well-drilled and up for the challenge on Saturday, making life extremely hard for the Reds, who needed someone to step up. Salah was the man to do just that with his jinking run into the box drawing the mistake from Gross. The Reds need to grind out all the wins they can between now and the end of the season if they want to win that first Premier League title, and Salah is likely to be a key player for them in that time. The speed machine winger has contributed so many match-winning moments during his time on Merseyside, and while there are other players who can do so, he is always the player they look to for inspiration when things are not going their way.
