Jermaine Jenas heaped praise on Liverpool attacker Roberto Firmino while watching the Reds lose 2-1 to Wolves in the FA Cup on Monday.

The 35-year-old who has been a BBC pundit since 2014, according to BBC Sport, revealed while watching the 27-year-old feature against Wolves that he thought the Brazilian was the player who made the Reds tick.

Firmino didn’t start the clash against Nuno Santo’s side but was brought on by Jurgen Klopp in the second half when there was 20 minutes left to play.

“There’s no doubt for me that Firmino is always the one that makes a difference, makes this Liverpool team tick, he drops into midfield areas and gets on to the ball, top player already had an impact,” said Jenas while commenting on Monday’s clash with Wolves (Monday January 7th, 21:23).

OPINION

Firmino had a rough start to the season in terms of his form but as of late he has looked back to his old self. The 27-year-old is playing in a deeper position than he was last season but his link-up play is making the Reds look more like a well-oiled machine. While Firmino wasn’t able to turn the game against Wolves around in his side favour, once he entered the field you could see his influence. The Reds looked way more lively with the Brazilian on the pitch and the 27-year-old did all he could to help his side get back in the game. It’s also worth noting that even though Firmino is playing in a deeper position, which sees him act more like a midfielder at times, he has still proven to be a threat in front of goal this season. The forward has racked up 10 goals in the 29 outings he has made so far and you wouldn’t bet against him adding to that tally in the second half of the season.
