Monday night’s 2-1 FA Cup defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers certainly wasn’t a night to remember for Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge.

The former Chelsea man was handed a chance to impress by manager Jurgen Klopp, but ultimately produced little of note in a rather disappointing display.

With this latest sub-par performance in the books it leaves many people wondering where the England international will go in terms of his Reds career?

The most likely destination at this moment in time, you have to say, is the Anfield exit door. It sounds harsh, but with all the uncertainty surrounding the 29-year-old he’s probably not someone that the club want to tie themselves to.

The Englishman’s current contract is up at the end of the season and so far there has been no news about an extension. Furthermore there is still the elephant in the room of the player’s impending punishment for an alleged gambling violation.

Ultimately, though, it’s Sturridge’s performances on the pitch that are leading him to a summer exit. After starting the season in red hot form the striker has seen the goals dry up and his influence wane.

Perhaps that’s understandable given that he is working with limited game time, but that makes the need for impressive displays in games such as Monday’s all the more great.

He hasn’t been showing up recently, though, and that was the case once again against Wolves. He looked isolated up top and couldn’t get anything going in an attacking sense before eventually being substituted.

When you bring all these things together it seems pretty clear that Sturridge won’t be remaining on Merseyside beyond this season. It’s a shame, but his performance in recent months haven’t warranted an extended stay.
