Liverpool have reignited their interest in PSV Eindhoven winger Steven Bergwijn, according to Calcio Mercato.

The Italian outlet reports on their website that the Reds are amongst the four suitors for the 21-year-old, which include Inter Milan, Manchester United and Bayern Munich.

Liverpool previously registered their interest in Bergwijn – who has scored ten goals this season – in October [Sport], with the Dutch outfit valuing their Champions League ace at around £26 million.

Bergwijn has made 25 appearances in all competitions this season, providing nine assists in the process.

OPINION

Liverpool have registered their interest in Bergwijn a few times now, so it remains to be seen why reports keep linking them with an interest. If they did not end up swooping for him previously, why would they do so this time around? Jurgen Klopp already has some suitable players operating on the left wing – take Sadio Mane for instance – so signing the star would essentially be pointless. Paying around £26 million for a player that they do not really need would be a waste of funds, as he is unlikely to get into the first team any time soon. The Reds should just leave their European counterparts to fight over him amongst themselves, as this is really just a waste of their time. The amount of attacking talent Liverpool have in their ranks is more than enough to satisfy Klopp, so there is no need to be greedy. Bergwijn is no doubt an incredible talent – but he is an incredible talent that Liverpool do not need at the moment.
