Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson has backed Liverpool to secure victory against ‘dangerous side’ Leicester City on Wednesday.

The two teams will go head to head at Anfield, and Merson believes that Jurgen Klopp’s side will be victorious, opting for a 3-1 win for the Reds.

“It’s hard to make a case against Liverpool,” he wrote on the Sky Sports website. “Leicester can be quite a dangerous side on their day but that’s the problem, you just don’t know what you are going to get from Claude Puel’s side from game to game.

“One minute they can be a right handful but the next they are getting beat. So for me, it’s a Liverpool win with Jurgen Klopp’s side opening back up their four-point cushion at the top of the table.”

OPINION

You have to back Liverpool, here. Leicester are a tricky side, we saw what they did against Manchester City not long ago, but they just don’t seem like they have enough weapons to outscore the Reds. They might nick a goal but are they really going to score two or three, which is what would be required to beat Klopp’s team? Probably not. That’s because Liverpool will inevitably score, perhaps more than once. Either that or they will control the game en route to a comfortable 1-0 win, as they have done on several occasions this season. Virgil van Dijk seems like the perfect defender to cope with Jamie Vardy, while Liverpool will surely win the midfield battle. Ultimately the hosts will likely prove too good and the visitors too inconsistent. That’s surely all there is to it. Combine that with Leicester’s season going nowhere and Liverpool needing a win to stay in the driving seat for the title, and you have a recipe for a routine Reds victory.
