Liverpool have shaken hands on a £17.3million transfer for Trabzonspor winger Abdülkadir Ömür, according to Ajansspor.

The Turkish publication states that the two clubs have come to an agreement on a deal for the 19-year-old, in what looks to be another smart swoop for Reds sporting director Michael Edwards.

The report claims that the deal has not yet been officially announced in order to prevent anger from Trabzonspor’s supporters, with fan fury expected at his exit, and will instead be revealed at the end of the season.

The teenager has been a regular part of the Turkish side’s team this campaign, scoring twice and bagging five assists in 20 games for Ünal Karaman’s side.

OPINION

If this does turn out to be true then it’s tremendous news for Liverpool. Ömür is rightfully regarded as one of the finest young talents in world football, as demonstrated by his impact for his club at such a young age. Even if his numbers don’t jump off the page, the fact that he is a regular starter at just 19 for a team chasing the European places in Turkey says it all. He is a hot prospect, and securing him would be a real boon for the Reds. He is a tricky player who has masses of potential. Anfield would be a fantastic destination for him as he looks to take the next step in his development. It shows the progress that Liverpool have made in recent years that one of Europe’s hottest properties wants to come and play for them when he likely has his pick of teams. Jurgen Klopp is building something special on Merseyside and the fantastic work of Edwards – who has delivered a coterie of top class players to the club recently – goes hand in hand with that.
