James Milner has revealed his favourite night at Anfield as a Liverpool player, claiming that the last gasp Europa League win over Borussia Dortmund in 2016 was ‘one of the best’.

A 91st minute Phillipe Coutinho goal saw the Reds scrape past Jurgen Klopp’s old side in a dramatic 4-3 win that also led to them dumping the German club out of the competition 5-4 on aggregate.

Speaking on the Big Interview with Graham Hunter, Milner said: “One of the best nights at Anfield – everyone will say City and things like that – was the Dortmund game.

“It was just one of those. We looked down and out. There was no way of coming back. They were a very, very good team. Then you get one goal and then you get a bit of belief in the ground and then the next.

“Obviously, the way we scored the last goal – at the Kop end – the whole roof comes off.”

OPINION

There have been so many classic nights at Anfield, and several since Jurgen Klopp took over, so for Milner to pick out the Dortmund win shows just how special it was. Liverpool were all but out if it, and the game itself had been such an entertaining affair sit was, so for the Reds to come storming back to win it in the last minute, not only to win on the night but to advance o the next round of the competition, must have been an exhilarating feeling. The thrill of a last minute winner is incredible as a supporter, but it must be amplified tenfold as a player, and the emotion that will have surrounded the night, with Klopp facing his old side, must only have added to it. Most nights at Anfield have a little dusting of magic about them, and with the imperious from that the Reds are currently in, there will certainly be more to follow.
