OPINION

Liverpool took on Wolves on Monday night hoping to progress in the FA Cup with Jurgen Klopp opting to rest some of his first-choice options.

However it turned out to be a difficult task for the Reds as Wolves didn’t have any plans to roll over for them.

Raul Jimenez put Nuno Santo’s side ahead in the 38th minute of the match as he pounced on an opportunity to storm through on goal after James Milner made an uncharacteristic mistake.

Though Divock Origi got the Reds back on level terms minutes into the second-half after a clinical finish.

Ruben Neves didn’t wait around to put Wolves back in front ahead as he scored a beautiful goal that Simon Mignolet had no chance of saving.

Live 4 Liverpool have rated every single Liverpool player for their performances in the 2-1 defeat to Wolves with one player scoring a 2/10 as several struggled.

Goalkeeper and defence

Simon Mignolet – 6 – One dodgy pass in first-half but aside from that didn’t do much of note in opening 45 minutes. Nothing he could do for either of Wolves’ opening two goals.

Rafael Camacho – 6 – Got caught out of position a couple of times in first 45 minutes due to pushing too far forward.

Fabinho – 8 – Did a solid job playing in the centre of defence, which was comforting after Dejan Lovren went off injured.

Dejan Lovren – N/A – Hardly had time to anything before injury cruelly saw him leave the field.

Alberto Moreno – 3 – Got bypassed couple times in 45 minutes but Wolves weren’t wise enough to take full advantage. Moreno kept looking like a weak part of the defence.

Midfield

James Milner – 6 – Seem to attempt to do extra defensive work to cover the fact the Reds had a makeshift defence playing, but was robbed off the ball in the build up to Wolves’ opening goal.

Naby Keita – 5- Started brightly but faded in the first-half.

Curtis Jones – 6 – Didn’t offer Moreno much protection in first half of the match but showed glimpses of his ability when in possession.

Attack

Xherdan Shaqiri – 7 – Snatched at half-chance at 30th minute mark. Played a part in Divock Origi’s goal for the Reds by spotting Milner in space. Went close with a free-kick in 68th minute.

Daniel Sturridge – 2 – Very quiet first half. Wasted chance to impress as bordered on invisible. Sturridge’s £120,000-a-week wage (Source: Spotrac) may make him a big earner but he doesn’t deserve to be based on that display.

Divock Origi – 7 – Just like his strike partner was quiet for first 45 minutes. Gave the ball away cheaply. However wonderful finish in the second half to get his side back on level terms.

Substitutes

Ki-Jana Hoever on for Lovren (5) – 7 – Comfortable in possession and looked confident when on the ball.

Roberto Firmino on for Sturridge (69) – 7- Looked lively made a difference.

Mohamed Salah on for Jones (69) – 7- Just like Firmino his introduction made a difference.
