Zappacosta would be wise signing

Liverpool may have one of the strongest group of players in the Premier League, but that in no way means there are some improvements to be made.

Namely, in the right-back position.

Trent Alexander-Arnold frequents the role on a regular basis, and rightly so, as he is defensively solid as well as excellent going forward – an obvious first choice for Klopp.

However, what does the manager do when the 20-year-old is injured? He has no quality cover for the role, and this is deeply concerning for a team who are one of the favourites to win the Premier League title.

Step forward Chelsea right-back Davide Zappacosta, who is just the answer to the Reds’ key issue.

Having only made ten appearances in total this season – with only two of those coming in the league – the 26-year-old is undoubtedly on the look-out for increased first team chances, so what better place to come than Anfield?

Alexander-Arnold needs some competition for the role as there is not really anybody who can provide that at the moment.

Zappacosta’s talent is going to waste with the Blues, and to be honest, it is baffling why he has been frozen out by Maurizio Sarri in the way that he has.

Nevertheless, that talent would not go to waste under Klopp – as signing the Italian defender will be the last piece in the puzzle for Liverpool.

He is on £80,000-a-week [Spotrac] at Chelsea, a wage that Liverpool would be more than capable of matching, as well as his potential transfer fee.

One thing is for sure though, Klopp certainly would not be compromising on quality with a signing like Zappacosta – just because he has been ousted at Stamford Bridge, that does not mean he does not perform to a high standard.

Klopp would be onto a masterstroke by signing Zappacosta – and the fans will no doubt be drooling at the prospect.
