Bobby Adekanye wants to quit Liverpool amid uncertainty about his future role at the Merseyside club, according to Goal journalist Neil Jones.

The reporter claimed via his personal Twitter account on Friday that the 20-year-old attacker has all but agreed a deal to join Lazio on a free transfer when his contract expires at the end of the season.

It is now understood that one of the reasons behind Adekanye’s decision to leave Anfield was that he wasn’t sure he would get first team opportunities with the Premier League high-flyers.

Jones adds that the Netherlands youth international is “well off” Jurgen Klopp’s senior squad.

OPINION

You cannot blame Adekanye for wanting to leave Liverpool. Since joining the Reds from Barcelona in 2015, he has failed to make a single first team appearance, and players cannot expect to improve if they are stuck playing kid’s football. Adekanye’s best experience yet is playing for the Under-23s and for the Dutch Under-17s. For someone who is 20-years-old, that is not enough experience and Liverpool have failed to develop him into the player who had loads of potential when he arrived from Barca almost four years ago. Will he go on to prove the Reds wrong? That remains to be seen but Lazio do like to give young players more of a chance in the first team than Liverpool do. At the end of the day, Liverpool’s academy produces a lot of good players. Some break into the first team, but it wouldn’t be a shock if 99 per cent of them failed to do so. Adekanye isn’t the first to have this issue and he won’t be the last. Good luck to him in Italy.
