Glen Johnson says that he is excited to see how Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold can develop from the position that he is in now.

Johnson – who used to play as a right-back himself for the Reds in the past – says that the 20-year-old youngster is not the “finished article” yet, and that he still has a lot more potential to unleash as well as room for improvement.

He adds that Liverpool’s full-backs – which also includes Andrew Robertson at left-back – are crucial to the team’s efforts if they can maintain their form and ensure that they remain fit.

“He’s got bundles of potential to improve. He’s only 20 years old so he’s far from the finished article and what he can become from the position he’s in now is exciting,” he told Liverpool’s official website.

“[The full-backs] are two key players for the way they play at the moment so fingers crossed they stay fit and healthy and keep performing the way they are.”

OPINION
It is easy to forget that Alexander-Arnold is only 20-years-old at the moment. It feels like he has been a part of the first team set up for years with the level and maturity that he plays at. He is Jurgen Klopp’s first choice right-back, and for good reason. The way he can master both his defensive duties and his attacking duties is excellent, and his crosses into the box are some of the best in the Premier League at the moment. Is there anything that he cannot do? Liverpool will no doubt miss him as the possibility of him playing against Tottenham this Sunday hangs in the balance, and to be honest, this shows why they need to recruit another right-back this summer. Johnson is right though, it is exciting to see what type of player he will become in the next few years based on the position he is in right now. If he is talented now, how much more can he improve? Only time will tell.
