Michael Owen believes that Liverpool will overcome Tottenham in their Premier League clash on Sunday afternoon.

The Reds are currently two points clear at the top of the table, but second-placed Manchester City have a game in hand, and Jurgen Klopp will have earmarked this game against third-placed Spurs as a must win.

Speaking to BetVictor, Owen suggested that the Reds will have enough to take all three points.

He said: “Liverpool have lost just one of their last 24 home PL games with Spurs and I expect the hosts to be top of the table on Sunday evening after, what promises to be, a cracking game at Anfield.

“The Reds are unbeaten in their last 36 home league games while Spurs are without a win in their last four – a run which has seen the end of their title challenge.

“Liverpool to win, but it could be a bumpy ride.”

OPINION

Owen is probably right in his assessment, and you would expect Liverpool to overcome a Spurs side that have been temperamental at best recently, but you could easily see this one being a cagey affair with just the one goal either way. It may go against the free flowing philosophies of both sides, but both will be desperate not to lose. The potential ramifications of that could be massive for Liverpool, but Spurs have a fair bit to lose as well, and their Champions League spot, seemingly nailed on not to long ago, suddenly looks in real jeopardy. You would expect a cautious affair, but if things start getting late and the deadlock hasn’t been broken, it could also lead to hectic finale. These matches tend to end up as tactical battles as opposed bloody free-for-alls, and if it comes down to a battle of wits between two of the league’s best managers, it could go either way.
