Chris Sutton took to Twitter during Liverpool’s commanding 3-1 Champions League win over Bayern Munich on Wednesday night to post a typically sharp and hilarious remark hailing the Reds’ win.

Jurgen Klopp’s men took the lead through a sublime Sadio Mane strike and survived a scare to run out eventual 3-1 winners, booking themselves a place in the last eight of the competition.

Posting on his personal account after Mane added the third goal, and his second of the night, BT pundit Sutton cheekily wrote: “Auf wiedersehen pet… 3-1 Mane”.

OPINION

This was a ruthless and efficient performance from Liverpool, and one well deserving of the plaudits it is bound to be showered with in the coming days. Not even the most optimistic of Reds fans will have dreamt of coming away with a 3-1 victory, and in large part, they had two men to thank for their comprehensive victory. At one end Virgil van Dijk was his usual commanding self, and even managed to power home a towering header to give his side daylight with the scores tied at 1-1. In truth, however, the night belongs to Sadio Mane who was simply magnificent. His first goal will go down as one of the great European goals of recent years, and the desire he showed to throw himself full length at Mo Salah’s cross in the closing stages to wrap up the win was absolutely brilliant. The Senegalese international has been exemplary in recent weeks, scoring 10 in his last 10 matches, and another masterclass in Germany will have had fans swooning.
