One thing that has been evident time and again for Liverpool this season, and was again against Everton on Sunday, is that there is a real lack of creativity in midfield for the Reds.

Xherdan Shaqiri was once thought to be the answer to this problem, as was Naby Keita, but manager Jurgen Klopp must now concede that he needs to bring in a top class playmaker in the summer.

Step forward Isco, then. Italian outlet Tuttosport reported recently that both Liverpool and Manchester United had their eyes on the spellbinding Real Madrid star.

It likely wouldn’t take a boatload of cash to get a deal done, either. Isco has fallen out of favour in the Spanish capital, likely reducing his value even further from the £68.5million Mundo Deportivo reported it would take to sign him last May.

Obviously the difficulty would be in beating United to his signature, but there’s no doubt that from a footballing standpoint, at least, Liverpool are the more attractive proposition at this moment in time.

Plus, they have the greater need. Isco would be an automatic starter on Merseyside, the exact type of player the team has been lacking this season.

The majority of the creativity in this Liverpool side comes from the attackers or the full backs, precious little is provided by the midfielders. Isco’s arrival would change that. He is a playmaker extraordinaire, a high-level technician capable of unlocking even the tightest of defences – now, doesn’t that sound like someone the Reds need?

His potential signing would fill a huge hole in Klopp’s team, while being the statement of intent required to get the Anfield crowd bouncing ready for next season.
