Some moments in football are so special that they are destined to be repeated and talked about time and time again for years to come. Sadio Mane’s goal against Bayern Munich on Wednesday evening was on of those moments. The awareness the Senegalese international showed to trap Virgil van Dijk’s long ball, turn Manuel Neuer inside out, and fashion a deft chip into the far corner was nothing short of sublime, and it was exactly the kind of start that Liverpool will have wanted to get off to in Germany. Aside from his brilliant goal, however, the forward was a constant livewire, always looking to the take the ball into feet and willing to stretch the Bayern defence whenever he got half an opportunity to. A lot of the time, Mane is eclipsed by Mo Salah when it comes to praise and plaudits, but on Wednesday evening, and indeed across the past few weeks in general, Mane has been Liverpool’s main man while his teammate has struggled. Reds fans will just be glad that he has switched it on when he has been needed most, and if he can pull out a few more moments of brilliance like he did against Bayern on Wednesday, he might just keep on getting the attention.
