OPINION
James Milner always seems to get the thankless tasks on a football field. The Liverpool midfielder has made a career out of being the one hurtling around the centre of the park, putting his body on the line and generally getting very little credit in the process. Sometimes, however, he gets no credit because he doesn’t doe enough to justify it. This was the case in the Reds’ first half against Bayern Munich on Wednesday night. The veteran campaigner spent most of the first half running around the engine room, making very little impact and generally looking a little off the pace. The former England international was asked to step up to the plate when captain Jordan Henderson went off injured early on, but after assuming the armband, he did very little to inspire his troops. It’s not that he played particularly poorly against the Bundesliga giants, but he did very little right either, and on a night when Liverpool need big performances across the board, the last thing they can afford is a magnolia display from their on pitch leader. Increasingly there seem to be questions asked of what Milner actually brings to this Liverpool side, and increasingly, it is difficult to come up with a decent answer.

Milner is not exactly inspiring out there. Hope I end up wrong but not looking good. #LFC

If Messi played for #LFC Klopp would only start him 55% of the time for Milner.
